Charlottesville Horse Farms - The Farmington Hunt

Charlottesville Virginia horse farms located in Albemarle County have some of the most beautiful countryside in the United States which is idealy suited for horse farms. Albemarle horse farms range in size from several acres to several hundred acres. The county has several areas each possessing its own character which are known for their horse properties.

To the west of Charlottesville is the Farmington Hunt Country with a large selection of Charlottesville horse farms. This area centers around Garth Road and Free Union. The landscape has gently rolling fields and a scattering of woods. These farms, which vary in size, are set against stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Often there are several farms adjoining each other therefore offering plenty of land to ride across, with landowner's permission of course. Many Virginia horse farm owners are committed to land stewardship and pasture management, contributing to the vistas of green fields.

The kennels and club house of the Farmington Hunt Club are located in Free Union. The Farmington Hunt has a registered pack of foxhounds. The hounds go out three days a week from October - March.

Even in the middle of Virginia horse farms not everyone has their own farm. There is a selection of area horse boarding stables if you wish to board your horse or take lessons. The largest of these is The Barracks, which in addition to offering boarding and lessons hosts a series of A horse shows in the winter.  Or if a smaller atmosphere with more personalized attention is more to your likeing there is Shadowfax LLC at Yule Farm.  There are also several other farms in this area which put on outdoor horseshows in the spring and summer, or you can easily drive to horseshows all over the state almost every week of the year.

If you are in the market for a country home, rather than a horse farm, you will also find several neighborhoods on this side of Charlottesville with lovely homes on lots of several acres. You can still enjoy the pastoral beauty of the Virginia horse farms as you pass them on the drive out to your country home.

Whether you are looking for a Charlottesville home on a larger lot or a Charlottesville horse farm you will find a selection of special properties in the Farmington Hunt area.
