Meet Pam Dent
For many years Pam Dent was a professional in the horse business: boarding, training and selling horses. This experience gave her a respect for the environment, a love for the rural nature of Central Virginia and a commitment to preserve the natural beauty that makes Central Virginia such a special place in which to live. As a horse property specialist, she has the knowledge that makes her ideally suited to work with the equestrian buyer or to market your Charlottesville horse property.
Pam’s latest passion is the fascinating and endlessly frustrating game of golf. This naturally evolved into an interest in Charlottesville golf communities. As a golf community specialist, Pam can use her interest in the game to help you with the sale or purchase of a golf course home.
Pam’s Background
Pam Dent is almost a native of Charlottesville Virginia, having moved here in the second grade. Although her family did not have a farm and lived in one of Charlottesville’s wonderful neighborhoods, Pam was lucky to have the opportunity to grow up exploring the Virginia countryside from the back of a horse. This experience allowed her to learn first hand what a special gift it is to live in the heart of Virginia horse country. As a result Pam developed a passion for the preservation of our natural beauty – gently rolling hills, pastoral views, all set against the backdrop to the Blue Ridge Mountains – heaven!
The college years were spent at Miami of Ohio where Pam studied art and attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Art and now photography have remained a love of Pam’s; but they have always been something that she wanted to do because they gave her joy and not as a career path. However, the sense of design and appreciation of beauty naturally influences everything you do.
At the end of college Pam came back to Virginia and to the countryside she loved. Central Virginia is a wonderful place to raise a family. Pam raised two daughters who grew up in an Albemarle County country home surrounded by ponies and dogs, hiking and riding in the woods and the pastures, as they developed a respect for the natural world. At the sametime they had the benefit of the excellent Albemarle County schools and exposure to the art, theatre and music that the University of Virginia adds to the Charlottesville area.
Pam’s Professional Path
For many years Pam trained and sold show hunters and jumpers. Although she was based in Charlottesville, VA, Pam sold horses to buyers all over the United States. Their trainers would call Pam, tell her what kind of horse their client was looking for, how well they rode and their price range. Then Pam would search through available horses for sale in Virginia and the surrounding mid-Atlantic states. When she felt that she had the best selection of possible horses to suit their particular need, she would notify the client and they would fly in to spend a day trying horses. By the time that the buyers got back on the plane in the evening, she usually had found a horse for them. Next Pam was responsible for submitting their offer, negotiating the price with the seller, setting up and overseeing the prepurchase veterinary exam, getting the horse paid for and finally arranging for the horse to ship to its new home. Sounds a lot like real estate doesn’t it?
So how does a professional in the horse business segue into real estate?
Pam Dent actually had a real estate license when she was in her twenties, and she was the office manager for a local real estate company. However at that time her first love was the horses and she soon went on to a career training horses and running her own business. However in 2006 Pam decided that she was more apt to break than bounce and it was time to hang up her spurs. Going back to a career in real estate was an obvious choice. Like everything else she does Pam jumped in with both feet and became immersed in the real estate industry. In that time Pam embraced the challenges of the real estate market and built a thriving real estate business for herself.
Pam Dent holds the coveted e-Pro designation which is an internet specialist certification. As you know the majority of buyers begin their search for a home online. As a seller this means that your property needs to be extensively marketed online and you need a REALTOR with a major internet presence. In addition to print advertising that is targeted to the appropriate publication for your particular property, Pam advertises on numerous internet sites in order to expose your Charlottesville home or Charlottesville horse farm to as many buyers as possible. In addition Pam actively utilizes her personal websites, and five blogs to keep a vital internet presence as well as extensive internet networking with other professionals across the country.
As the 2011 President of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Women’s Council of Realtors, Pam uses her knowledge and energy to give back to the profession she loves. The Women’s Council of Realtors is one of the largest women’s organizations in the country and provides an excellent forum to network with real estate professionals across the United States.
Pam’s credential as a Pricing Strategy Advisor (PSA) assures her clients that she’s trained to bring optimum value to their transactions.
Pam also has the SRES (Seniors Real Estate Specialist) designation. Attaining this designation required training in all aspects of the transitions that the “50 and better” generation is going through. Whether it involves selling your home in order to downsize or buying a home in an “active 55” community, Pam has the knowledge and information to help you.
