Louisa County is one of the most varied and interesting counties of Central VA. It’s a beautiful hilly area just east of Charlottesville and this location has fostered the success of several neighborhoods of homes for people who commute to either Charlottesville or Richmond.
At one end of the spectrum is the community of Spring Creek which is near the intersection of Rt 15 and Rt. 250 between Charlottesville and Richmond. Spring Creek is a relatively new gated community of lovely homes and townhomes that has gained national acclaim for its golf course and other facilities. But the ambience of Louisa County itself is decidedly rural because of its farms and estates. In the western portion of Louisa County there’s an area called the Green Springs Historic District that’s been designated with some building restrictions to preserve its agricultural and architectural history. The Historic District is roughly 6.5 miles by 4.5 miles. The fields of Louisa County were chosen by Cyrus McCormick to test his reapers on the wheat fields in 1841. In Virginia there is a route to honor the events of the Civil War, and Boswell’s Tavern in Louisa County is on route of Journey Through Hallowed Ground.
